Abstract It is usually not the best idea to take a questionnaire previously administered via phone or mail, and implement it online. Question types which work well in a traditional medium may not be as effective via the Internet. Alternatively, the Internet allows the use of complex question types which are difficult to implement via traditional survey methods. This presentation explores a range of complex question types used in online research projects at American Power Conversion (APC), a Fortune 1000 technology company. This session will highlight the following topics: · Failures of traditional survey methods; · The implementation of discrete choice modeling studies online; · Online use of other complex question types including rating and ranking questions and constant sum allocations; · The value of online "verbatims; · How and when "Broadband" technologies will change the face of online research.
